Indonesia
Indonesia has no AI law yet, requires government systems to store data in-country, and is expanding data centre capacity.
Two Presidential Regulations, a National AI Roadmap and an AI ethics regulation, were still pending as of mid-2026 according to a July 2026 analysis. Government Regulation 71 of 2019 requires public-scope electronic system operators to manage, process and store data in Indonesia, while private operators may use offshore storage if supervision stays effective. The Personal Data Protection Law was enacted on 17 October 2022. For someone seeking compute, private users can generally host abroad, public bodies cannot, and a Komdigi-led AI Centre of Excellence with Indosat, Nvidia and Cisco is building an AI factory.
AI policy and activity
Komdigi (Ministry of Communications and Digital Affairs) leads. The pending ethics regulation is described as a risk classification modelled on the EU AI Act, with self-assessment duties.
Power and grid
Reported. The Tech For Good Institute article says Indonesia aims to reach 1.65GW of data centre capacity by the end of 2026. No grid or connection constraint was read.
