Isle of Man

The Isle of Man is funding AI adoption and markets a small, Tier III-standard hosting base, but a small grid limits large AI compute.

The government set up a National AI Office in January 2026 with GBP 1 million, with a national AI strategy planned by the end of 2026, and Digital Isle of Man has run AI programmes since 2024 including an agreement with AI Singapore. Hosting is concentrated in Manx Telecom's two Tier III-standard data centres, aimed at finance, gaming, public sector and managed service providers, and sold on being a separate jurisdiction within the UK Customs Zone with low latency to the UK. No AI law, compute incentive or hyperscale proposal was found. Peak electricity demand is around 72MW to 90MW, so a large AI facility would be a very big load. For someone seeking compute, expect colocation and regulated hosting, not GPU clusters.

AI policy and activity

The National AI Office is the single coordinating body for AI adoption across government, industry and the public. Its work covers a national AI strategy, AI literacy, adoption support, guidance for safe use, public service use and workforce skills. It builds on an earlier Activate AI programme, which the government estimated saved about GBP 2 million in 2025. A 2024 target aimed to raise GDP by 10% (GBP 530 million) by 2030 through AI productivity. The sources we read mention no compute, data centre or legislation component.

Power and grid

Manx Utilities Authority is a statutory board of the Isle of Man Government that generates, transmits and distributes electricity, with Pulrose (gas), Sulby hydro and Peel stations, plus a 40MW subsea interconnector to England (Wikipedia). A Manx News report of a political proceeding gives winter 2022/23 peak demand as 72MW, a projection of 62MW to 79MW by 2030 and a past peak above 90MW, with the utility chair saying no grid strengthening is needed for 2030 demand. Nothing was found on a data centre connection policy or large-load tariff.

Connectivity

The government said in July 2022 that Aqua Comms' Celtix-Connect 2 cable (landing at Port Erin and Port Grenaugh) took the island to seven subsea systems, linking Ireland, the UK and onward.
