Mauritius adopted a National AI Strategy by February 2026 and is amending its Data Protection Act to align with the EU.
A National AI Unit was launched in December 2025 and the National AI Strategy and a National Data Strategy 2025-2029 followed. The 2026 budget reportedly allocated Rs 70 million for a Tier IV data centre, though actual allocation is uncertain. Data Protection Act 2017 amendments began in January 2026 and critical infrastructure regulations came into force in May 2026.
