Policy / Setting conditions
Sweden
Sweden is reworking how large electricity users queue for and gain grid connection.
The government told the transmission operator in September 2025 to review its connection process to shorten lead times. Its April 2026 report proposes a readiness-based element alongside first-come, first-served, capacity zones for chosen customer types, and an investigation of fossil-free supply requirements for large new users. These are proposals, and neither text names data centres specifically.
Power and grid
The operator's report says first-come, first-served can tie up capacity with projects that are not ready, which is why it proposes a readiness test.
