Czechia

Czechia has a 2030 AI strategy, the Karolina supercomputer in Ostrava and a new AI Factory, while distributors log about 1 GW of data centre connection requests.

The government approved the updated National AI Strategy 2030 in 2024 with an action plan of about 19 billion crowns. The EuroHPC-backed Czech AI Factory, led by VSB Technical University of Ostrava, will add an AI supercomputer called KarolAIna on roughly 340 AI chips, at a total cost of about one billion crowns. The ministry reports data centre connection requests of 50 to 200 MW per project but has no analysis to 2030. For someone seeking compute, Karolina is available now and KarolAIna is planned. Private AI data centres near Brno and Prague are in preparation.

AI policy and activity

The strategy covers research, education, skills, ethics and law, security, business and public administration. EuroHPC's AI Factories page lists the Czech AI Factory (CZAI) among its newer selections.

Power and grid

Forbes Czechia reports the three main distributors have logged data centre connection requests totalling about 1 GW, equal to one Temelin unit. The industry ministry says individual projects run from 50 to 200 MW. A consultancy estimate cited there puts data centre use near 1.8 TWh a year by 2030, against national consumption of about 60 TWh.
