Denmark
Denmark runs the Gefion sovereign AI supercomputer, but its grid operator paused new large connections in spring 2026 because about 60 GW of projects were queuing.
Gefion is operated by the Danish Centre for AI Innovation and has begun an industrial programme with Siemens Gamesa. Energinet introduced a three-month pause on new grid connections, reported in May 2026, because roughly 60 GW of consumption projects were waiting against a national peak demand of about 7 GW. Projects that had already signed connection agreements were not affected. We could not confirm whether the pause has ended or been extended. For someone seeking compute, Gefion is the national option, and anyone planning a new Danish data centre should expect long waits for connection.

Power and grid
Energinet says about 60 GW of new consumption is waiting for connection against a peak of about 7 GW. A May 2026 article puts installed data centre capacity at about 398 MW at the start of 2026, with 208 MW under construction and a projection of 1.2 GW by 2030, and says over 80% of Danish electricity is renewable.
